Beaches of Florianópolis

Florianopolis is surrounded by 42 beaches. Each one is different from the other.  There are beaches good for fishing, raising oysters and mussels and beaches with a lot of seafood restaurants where people usually don’t sunbathe or go to the water. There are some beaches that you can only reach after a long hard hike and many beaches with a lot of social activities for all kinds of taste. There are beaches for the young and old, for family or sports lovers. Most of the beaches in Florianopolis have some kind of social activity and are very well frequented. The best beaches for social activities in Florianopolis are Jurerê, Joaquina and Pantano do Sul.

Jurerê is the most popular beach in Florianópolis. It’s where the rich and famous have summer houses. There are also many beach clubs located there, for example Clube 12 is a very popular one and it’s know in the whole town. Because it is a high class neighborhood, prices tend to be very expensive there. For example, the price of a can of coke is twice as much as it would be downtown. Many families enjoy going there to interact, play paddleball, volleyball or simply sunbathe. Despite of the high prices, Jurerê is the first choice of beach for tourists and locals.

Joaquina is the surfer’s paradise. It’s located by a beautiful mountain. We can climb the mountain and have a beautiful view of the beach and the ocean. There are huge dunes just behind the beach where young people love to go sandboarding.  The area around Joaquina beach is a permanent preservation place; therefore there aren’t many commercial establishments. Even though there’s not much infrastructure, people love to hang out there to appreciate the beautiful nature.

Pântano do Sul is a family beach. The ocean is always calm there. Many family restaurants make the place desirable. The beach is very wide; you can park on the sand and still have enough space to enjoy the beach and even practice beach sports, such as paddleball and soccer. It’s the perfect beach for children.

So, Jurerê, Joaquina and Pântano do Sul are the best beaches in Florianópolis for social activities. However these aren’t the only choices. Every beach around the city has its own characteristics. Discover and make your choice.
